While each U.S. airline has its own set of carry-on size requirements for domestic flights, McKlein has identified 9 x 14 x 22 (length + width + height) or 45 linear inches (the length, height and width added together) as a basic measure for consumers to follow when making carry-on purchase decisions. These dimensions include all handles, wheels and other extrusions. Our customers have found that many airlines will allow bags that are slightly larger than their stated dimensions on numerous flights. Ultimately, what is allowed to be carried on a flight is up to the individual airline and may change without notice due to a variety of circumstances. Please click on links below for detailed carry-on information from the leading U.S. domestic airlines.

NOTE: The dimensions of U.S. based carriers are for their domestic routes. International carriers have different carry-on regulations for their international and domestic flights. Most of those listed here are for international flights, such as New York to London on British Airways. If you need carry-on regulations for flights within Europe, Asia or other non-U.S.locations, we recommend that you contact the airline directly.

Checked Oversized Bags

It is important to note that some airlines may now charge a substantial fee for checking oversized bags. The definition of an oversized bag is one of more than 62 linear inches (length + width + height). Because penalties for oversized bags is not strictly enforced by the majority of carriers, you should check with your airline prior to travel.
